Career Day at Addelita Cancryn Jr. High School

Thanks to the coordinators of the Career Day at Addelita Cancryn Jr. High School on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 for the most fun I’ve had in a long time!

I got to join Mrs. Penn’s and Mrs. Schlesinger’s classes on that morning to share my take on finding a dream career! Principal Yvonne Pilgrim greeted us all and introduced a variety of adult community members who were there to spend time with the students in a morning filled with prepared presentations, including appearances by St. Thomas Rescue and Fire Services.

Imagine the excitement of the children as they enjoyed the many appearances throughout the campus – lots of fun and learning together (very cool!) Liza Freeman, Department Chair of the Guidance division and other counselors including Linnell Al-Adil (who invited yours truly) directed the children, who fully participated as greeters and campus guides for the many guests on site.

The theme of the day was “My Career Dreams!”… and here is the Power Point presentation I gave, along with a handout that provided the youngsters with a spot to write their career dreams, along with the things they like to do that are most enjoyable. My theory is, the more those two have in common, the happier the professional life and the chance of finding that Dream Career! Hope you enjoy…
